I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was a seven. I wrote my first novel at the age of 12 and titled it Just the Six of Us. Not very imaginative I realize, but it was about six teenagers: three boys, three girls, two were brother and sister and I mentioned a crush or two.
During high school biology class, instead of paying attention I wrote stories about being on tour with my favorite rock band. I am not, under any circumstances, suggesting a student ignore their classroom studies. But I had way more fun writing those stories than I did dissecting frogs! After college, I took a detour from writing and became an event planner and a professor. I knew it was time to take my writing seriously after my children were born. I learned my craft and my first middle grade novel, Welcome to Kata-Tartaroo will be out in the fall of 2013.
I also teach workshops on creative writing to elementary and middle school students.
For the past ten years I have been practicing yoga. I tell my family it keeps me nice. When I’m not writing or taking crow pose I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, reading, and baking cupcakes.
